Support for Digital Pedagogy and Tools
There are a number of electronic resources available to Middlebury Language Schools faculty and staff, as well as computer labs and computer support staff on both campuses. Language School faculty and staff with general questions about digital pedagogy and technology should send an e-mail to email@example.com.
There are also a number of pre-arrival recommendations for faculty and staff who travel to Middlebury or Mills from abroad, and/or who only work with Middlebury over the Summer. Make sure to check out these pre-arrival recommendations as soon as possible.
Getting Started for Summer

Step One: Activate your account before coming to campus
Most Middlebury digital resources require that you log in with Middlebury credentials (username and password). If you don’t have or don’t know your Middlebury credentials, you can retrieve or reset that information by visiting the Account Activation page. You will need your 8-digit Identification Number (ID) and your 6-digit BannerWeb Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you don’t have your ID number or PIN, please call the Technology Helpdesk at 802-443-2200.
Step Two: Use your credentials to access the campus network
Middlebury runs just one wireless network: MiddleburyCollege. If you direct your computer to connect to that network, then you can use your Middlebury credentials (username and password) to connect. If you have any trouble connecting, call the Helpdesk.
To access your Middlebury e-mail account, direct your internet browser to http://go.middlebury.edu/mail.
Step Three: Connect to your local printer
Middlebury uses a networked printing service called PaperCut. You can print to a local printer from your computer, or from a machine in a computer lab.
From your computer:
- Direct your browser to http://go.middlebury.edu/webprint.
- Log in using your Middlebury credentials.
- Select “Web Print” from the left-hand column.
- Select the local printer you want to print to.
- Send your print request.
From a computer lab:
- Access and open your document from the cloud, from your USB drive, or wherever you stored it.
- Print your document. In most programs, you can do this by going to File -> Print or by pressing the appropriate shortcut keys.
- Proceed to a Print Release Station associated with your printer selection. (After 18 hours have elapsed your print job will be erased from the system.)
- Log into the Print Release Station on or near the printer using your Middlebury username and password.
- Release your print job by clicking “Print” at right.
Step Four: Get Familiar with Library Resources
During the summer session Language School faculty and students have access not only to their campus libraries but also to the full resources and services of the Middlebury College Library, with over one million holdings, in print, online, and recorded form. These resources include:
- Middlebury’s online catalog (MIDCAT)
- Electronic delivery of articles in Middlebury’s collection and beyond using Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
These resources are available through the Middlebury Library webpages; in some cases users will need to log on, and they will be prompted to enter their Middlebury username and password.
Tools You Can Use
MiddCreate is Middlebury’s open web design project. Using MiddCreate, you or your students can design spaces for writing, self-expression, professional, academic, or creative portfolios, and more.
Canvas is Middlebury’s learning management system. Using Canvas, you can conduct online, asynchronous discussions with your students; provide feedback and post grades for assignments; upload documents, videos, audio files, and more.
WordPress is an open-source platform that is used at Middlebury for individual blogs and as a content management system for creating web sites in general. Uses include journals, creative writing tools, and news publishing.
Zoom is Middlebury’s official videoconference tool. You can use Zoom to digitally connect with individual students, whole classes, guest teachers, writers, and others. It’s simple to use, and accessible using your computer camera, a webcam, or your phone’s camera.
The Course Hub is a quick way to link your course materials (blogs, electronic reserves, articles, wikis, and sites) in one location so that they are easily found by your class.
Panopto is a video sharing and storage service that allows you to upload, edit, store and share video with your class. Panopto can be a very powerful tool to use for video lecture and video annotation.
